I know this information is somewhere back in time on this forum...as I might have read it....but if anyone has some first hand experience I'd appreciate it.

I entered Mexico in Sept. with my van on a Tourist Visa, which expires in March. I just recently got my FM3 and I forgot, in my frantic rush to get out of Migracion after 6 visits!!!!...forgot to ask how to change my car status so I don't have to take it out in March.
What's my next step?
I'll be working in a Public Normal (if I can take it)....until July.
Suggestions or procedures?
I'd be most appreciative. Getting information where I live is very difficult as I'm the only foreigner in miles.

Your car's status is tied to your status, so as long as you have a current visa (FMT, FM2, FM3) and your car was legally brought over the border (you have the little sticker in your window) you should be fine.

For further questions, I have consulted with a law firm in Ajijic and they have been incredibly helpful. Here's what they have to say about foreign plated vehicles: http://www.ajijiclaw.com/Vehicle%20Importation.htm.

As far as getting your car nationalized, this can be simple or impossible. In my case, it was impossible and I'm going to be taking my car out soon. I think others on the forum have more experience with this, and the folks in Ajijic can also answer questions about how to go about making the switch.

Good Luck!

I appreciate your prompt reply and I read the Ajiji groups legal advice.

My car is tied to my legal status FM3 so as long as I have a `sticker`on the car window and my FM3 is current when I cross the border I should be OK. I won't need to stop by the Aduana before that and 'checkear'....that's a relief!

I love this forum...all you have to do is ask!
