Dear All,
I'm considering an offer from AU (not to confuse with UAEU in Al Ain ). I have read not many comments about AU. Could you please let me know if you know anything about the AU? Please be specific and provide your experiences if any dealing with this University. Also, let me know if you have heard any rumor or over heard about this place.
All and any help will be certainly appreciated!!!
Regards,

Al Ain University of Science and Technology took on quite a few expatriate native speakers of Enlsish for a variety of roles when it first opened. (Can't remember when - about 4 years ago maybe?) Many left after a year, not sure why or whether it was by choice, and were replaced by cheaper hires - expatriate Arabs for the most part.
Not sure what the situation is now.
In spite of the grand title this institution teaches mostly Business and IT. |

The Head of the English Dept is a shady character who used to work at UAEU in Curriculum and Instruction. He tried to highjack some candidates for a position (to replace him as he was leaving for Al Ain U) at UAEU to recruit for Al Ain U... Not exactly the professional thing to do... Not sure if he was successful in his endeavor.
The salary for Al Ain U was less than at UAEU and housing was very unsure at the onset. The university departments were also going to be housed in a compound that used to be residential. Don't know if things have improved any?

It was more like three years ago and I took an interview...the most UNprofessional one I have ever experienced! They couldn't even successfully direct me to the "school" (really just a very small set of villas surrounded by walls) as they really didn't even know the neighborhood they were in. They finally sent someone out to guide me there. The interview was successful and they invited me to a second interview which I agreed to, but then ignored.
