Wish I could go and strut mine! I'd love to be there! Riyadh and its delights beckon. I'll have to make do with golf and cold beer here in Andalus.
At least I won't be in Airdrie or Hamilton. Wink

Well, Uncle Scot, I do not want you to go and strut your stuff in the Al Yamamah College. Just do it in this forum it will be more than enough Laughing

Uncle Scot one of the topics of interest in this conference is:
- The cultural context: How internal culture and society influence English language education; practices from Saudi Arabia and other countries;

So, Uncle Scot, since you are one of the Guru of the English language in the magic kingdom, and one who spent most of his life living and teaching in the magic kingdom society and environment, how do you answer, in a simple paragraph, the above cultural context topic? Based on your experience, do you think that the Saudi culture has influenced English language education? And how do you see the future of the magic kingdom regarding the ELE?

The stuff I'm made of is indeed stern. BTW, I've never understand the meaning of the expression ''hack it''. Maybe you could enlighten me?

Sheikh, I though you are from Glasgow? How come you do not understand the English of Uncle Scot? I think he was using simple and clear English! Just check your dictionary! Laughing

I've got you now, Scotty. Well, I did succeed (or hack it) in KSA. In fact, if I say so myself, I think I ''hacked it'' pretty well. Made targets, a little sporting success, decent students and colleagues (not all of them, of course). As for adversity, not much at all (apart from the murder of a colleague).
Keep hacking, old boy! You must have mastered it by now.

Hack it - gritting one's teeth or dentures, keeping your head down, oft repeating the life-affirming mantra, "It's not sooo bad here. I have the internet, books and other bits and pieces."

It is not for everyone and well, you can hold onto your memories and holiday plans to use as a crutch.

My agents in the cap[ital inform me that some of the conference will involve men and women being together in the same room - not of course in close physical proximity. God forbid !

If the conference were held in the evenings it might be possible to attend.

If it is during the day, forget it...no chance of getting time off from teaching.

Hopefully someone will report on the conference for those of us that are unable to attend.

Speaking of conferences, what has come of that Eastern Conference EFL body? Is it still alive and kicking? When is its next meeting?

If I get permission from my wife, I could join you in attending the conference.

Cheers!
