Does anyone have any idea where I might look for a guide while I'm visiting China?

Does Dave's pages have a site for non-teaching fora??

I have traveled extensively in China all by myself, and you can, too--unless you're headed to a very remote place. I would recommend buying a Lonely Planet guide to China and studying it thoroughly. It would give you an overview of the country and help you decide where you want to go.

I think you'd have to be inside China first before finding a guide, and I have no idea of how to locate one. You could try China International Travel Service. Then again, you could try asking at your hotel's reception desk.

Thanks for the comments. I have some guide books and also a large scale map, but will probably restrict my travels to HK and surrounding areas, as I don't have lot of time and the Oz $ has devalued a helluva lot in the past week, against the U$ tho heaven knows why.

I have contacted a guide, but he has asked for 400RMB a day, and no doubt meals on top of that. Seems a bit steep.

Next trip would be longer and more adventurous!
