It might be a dumb question, but I feel like asking anyway:

How early can I file taxes before I actually leave Taiwan? Does anyone (gov't types) care? I'm going to leave Taiwan soon, but I don't know when. So hypothetically, let's say I was going to leave Taiwan in December (working the whole time), but wanted to file my taxes tomorrow; can it be done? Sometimes I think it would be easier just to file way early, collect what I can and write off the rest (I'm not in a good situation here). I mean, do they verify when you are actually leaving Taiwan, or could you file any time and then deal with the rest later?

Are there rules, regulations, recommendations about this?

I was just reading this last week but don't have the information in front of me so confirmation from elsewhere might be a good idea.

1: You can file one week before you leave if you are leaving before the end of the tax year.
2: You can file in May for the preceding tax year.
3: You can file at the end of your contract (my school does this) to reclaim or pay taxes owed.

Not sure if that helps or not but last year we were forced to wait until one week before we left our job to go travelling (mid December) to file our taxes. This meant we were also forced to nominate a 'proxy' to receive our refund cheques.
When we returned to Taiwan we picked up our cheques but you could probably get somebody to forward it to you if you're not coming back / deposit it into your bank account and draw it out with your ATM card from overseas.

The only major problem I see with that is that the $NT is worth sweet F.A outside of Taiwan.
