Between 6 and 7%, or depends on how much you make?

Oh come on! Is this thread made in jest or did the OP truly not see the five or six threads directly below on PAGE ONE that have the word "tax" in them? While I admit that the search function at Dave's is not all that great, surely just lowering your eyes on your computer monitor will net you some results that you may want??

The search function is pretty well useless (sorry, Dave - and the navigation is cr*p too unless you have 20/20 vision and are stone-cold sober. The drop-down menus could be a hell of a lot simpler.)

If you do a search, then choose one item, then try to go back to your search results, well.... you can't. You have to do the search all over again.

A sticky of up-to-date tax rates would be welcomed, I'm sure.

I've yet to have tax deducted from my pay, and I've been in China going on 4 years.

I really think most schools taking out taxes are jerking teachers around.

Either you're paid an after tax amount, or you earn less than the threshold, or you're working off the books... Currently, if your pre-tax salary is over 4800rmb/month, for your fulltime job (including overtime), then you should be paying tax. All part time job income is taxable.

Some schools also say you are responsible for paying tax yourself...

I just want to get tax back on the agenda here, and this thread seemed to be the best choice to revitalise...

I've read a lot here (on Daves China) about calculating tax based on just the base salary, but what other parts of the remuneration package are , or are not, subject to taxation?

Currently, I'm most interested in knowing about the tax status of a monthly living/accommodation allowance and also an end of contract "productivity bonus".

The contract I'm looking at has a salary is 8000rmb/month and a living allowance of 3000rmb/month. The productivity bonus is supposed to be paid as a lump sum 2 weeks before the end of the contract. It's equal to the combined value of one month's salary and living allowance.

I don't need to hear worst case scenarios about not getting the end of contract bonus...

The school also pay a separate 10000rmb end of contract airfare subsidy. Is that taxable income?

Thanks.

By the way, for those who missed it 2 months ago, ymmv gave us the definitive answer to the foreign teacher full time income tax threshold and calculation of tax, here so, no need to raise it again here...

Tax on boni and other perks kicks in if the employer pays through official channels such as the bank.

It seems employers can choose to pay you in cash and bypass financial records.

That happened a lot at my previous post. It doesn't happen at my new one.
