Would the mayor of a city (a lifetime of power, money, trips, perks) risk his job/reputation over assisting in illegally holding a french teacher?
That said, how do you know the mayor is really his brother?
Just leave as quietly as possible. |
They certainly would not physically hold the runner themselves. The main danger would be a phone call to the PSB followed by questioning en-route to, or at, the airport leading to missed flight.
Quickly and quietly is the way to go.
And that's why they are called midnight runs. |

The bottom line is it's a civil matter not a criminal one. Therefore it's none of the p.s.b business. THey can't stop you from leaving the airport so why all the clock and dagger nonsense, advice I mean o.p
Sure protect yourself and do it such a way as you feel comfortable, but honsetly, don't worry.

Who says you have to leave in the middle of the night?
Have you got any foreign friends that are not associated with the school? If so, have them stand in as your relative. They come to your place, you pack up the luggage and leave as if it's theirs. When they ask what you're doing, just say you're taking your relative to the airport. |

Dude, walk right out of there in broad daylight and don't look back...
Really, use the family emergency excuse the day before you plan to leave. There's nothing they can do and it's easiest for you. |

Midnight runs no more have to take place at 2400 than moonlight flits require waiting for a break in the clouds.
The OP can either plead family emergency the day before departure or ring from the airport/home with the news but either way we all seem agreed that he should leave quickly and quietly with a minimum of fuss and arguments. |

This is China; with connections they can do whatever they want. Overall, i think this fellow is overreacting though.

I have a feeling the OP has taken the midnight run route. |

Yes indeed!
I want to thank all the posters who answered my original post. Most of the advices were very useful for me.
In fact it was easier than I thought. Stillnosheep is totally right to say that the bottom line is "to leave quickly and quietly with a minimum of fuss of arguments". If someone needs some specific information on this topic it would be a pleasure for me to help.
Thanks again. This forum is great. |
