It shows them that people of colour can be more and are more than just their drivers and maids!
Considering the large number of university lecturers and engineers they have from 'people of color' are we to presume that they also qualify as 'drivers and maids'?

The USA now has the goodwill of many - as they had in the aftermath of 9/11.
GWB and the US leadership changed all that. Let's hope that the US adopts more sensible foreign policies and recognises that there other players on the international scene. The days of the uinipolar world have ended.

Can we get through the rest of GWB's term without major incidents ? The crazies in Washington and Tel Aviv still want to drop a big one on Tehran.

Obama is merely American Imperialism with a human face in the same way that Yugoslavia was Communism with a human face.

It could be argued that Bush is more like East Germany, i.e. Communism with its face kicked in.

As my old granny would say he'll end up being all mouth and no trousers, just like Tony Blair.........

It seems the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King is now realised, and that we can say that an African American man is the head of the United Sates of Amerika, and that the white house will be housing the first black president in its history ( I hope he will not be the last!)!.

As far as the African American people are concerned, this is a black political earthquake is shaking the land of Uncle Sam!
But the question is: Did Amerika changed its colour only? Or are we going to see a change in its content as well?

Let's see what will the politicians in the white house do?

He is half black, half white.

Were he full black, there is no way he would have been elected, let alone nominated. Not yet anyway. It will take at least another 20 years before the country will be ready for a black President.

But yes 007, your point is valid. Let's see what happens to the soul of the US.

I'm not sure. In the minds of many, Obama is already 'full black' even though genetically he is as much white as black, and has little in common with most of the broader African-American community.

What is certain, however, is that he was elected because he was nonthreatening to established interest groups. Were Obama, say, a practising Muslim, an anti-Zionist, an atheist or an enemy of big business or militarism, there is absolutely no way he would be within a million miles of the White House.

Ah yes, Teflon Tony. A handsome, media-friendly young man with a gift for speech making who was swept to power on vague but enticing promises of 'change', only to soon prove himself very much a part of the corporate system. Sound familiar?

Cleo says
But thus far Obama has said or done very little to indicate that he will offer significant, concrete changes to the substance - as opposed to the style - of the Bush presidency.
That's preposterous. He's said and done plenty. He voted against the Iraq war when everyone else voted for it. He has shown deftness, calm, poise, sophistication and the ability to inspire throughout. Just the election campaign alone proves this, but he has an intellectual past prior to that, as, for example, lecturer in law at the University of Chicago.

When the lunatic Rev. Wright blew up in his face, he responded with arguably the most inspiring speech calculated to promote unity among Americans since Martin Luther King and JFK.

A lot of people on this forum seem to equate good American foreign policy with kowtowing to anything that emanates from Arabs. (Understandable--such people are earning their living being schoolmarms in the Middle East.) Terrorist attacks on US citizens have been going on since the 1970s, culminating in the 9/11 mass murders, yet you expect a US president to respond with "Oh, thank you sir, may I have another? Our citizens deserve to be murdered." Obama will withdraw the troops from Iraq--as he rightly said, they never belonged there in the first place--and redeploy many of them to Afghanistan to deal with the Taliban, who offered the staging base for Al Qaida. This is crucial and must be done. To turn the other cheek would be disastrous for US security and credibility and would send a clear message to all the hate-mongers that the US is fair game with impunity.

Your "Zionist" labels are not very analytical but more like the shrill yammerings of immature undergraduates. Not much difference between Obama and Bush?! How about not much difference between you and 007, who has openly expressed support for the Taliban.
