Comfort ladies?!
Well, well, Uncle Scotty, I will send an urgent telex to your Mrs in Bulgaria! |

The conference is in the J W Marriott. The website informs me that their CHEAPEST room is 1.550 Dirhams a night.
Id they would just remove that final zero I might be able to meet the bill.
Methinks I will be looking for my accommodation over the state line in Sharjah. That must be cheaper ! |

| There are usually a few hotels that offer special rates to TESOL members for the conference weekend. The website should have the information. |

Well, Uncle Scotty, before you ask them to remove the final ZERO, I would ask you please to remove the '.' from your above number and put it '1550' or 1,500 instead of 1.550!
No hotel will rent you a room with 1.550 DH a night, except the 0 stars hotel of Uncle Scotty in Bavaria!! |

The solution of course is to look in SHARJAH - just over the "state line" from Dubai but still in the UAE. I found a place using www.booking.com
It looks okay - "hotel-apartment". Twin room for only 300 Dirhams a night.
Next task is to make a reservation on Air Arabia. Is there no end to this profligacy ? |

Might be a fast commute if you fly into Riyad and drive all the way to Dubai. |

Did you mean "faster" commute MM? because that was my first thought too.
But, since he isn't having to get to "work" at a set time, he could possibly avoid the worst of rush hour.

You know my internet situation is dire, VS!!! I'm sitting in a cafe using up my 1 hour of free WiFi. No time to proof! Don't tell my students. I would suggest Scot47 get a place in Abu Dhabi and then walk to Dubai. He'll be there sooner than if he stayed in Sharjah. |

They didn't even respond to me last year when I sent a general conference query. They like taking your membership and conference fees, but don't seem to feel any obligation to respond to member queries. Exactly whose cash cow is this outfit?

The conference is just too big. I heard last year that one reason the fees are so high - especially the on-site fees - is to try to discourage people from coming. Odd way of thinking, that.
If you have a query about the conference you're probably more likely to get an answer from posters on this board than from the conference organisers. Might not be the right answer, but it'll be an answer. |
