Can anyone working in Taiwan please let me know what are the "normal" specks of a job there?

- Housing (Shared? Good housing???)
- Salary
- OT
- Paid Air Fare
- Pension?
- Health?
- Vacation
- Hours worked per week

What is considered a normal average job?

It all depends on for whom you are working. If you read the Taiwan ads on this website, or go to www.tealit.com, you usually find these questions answered in the job description.

It also depends a great deal on whether you work for an institute or a university. In the case of the latter, hours are shorter, pay is higher and vacations are longer.

Hope this helps!

Run of the mill, normal job specs:

- Housing (Shared? Good housing???)
Shared is normal for the young crowd, or for those looking for a one year stint. Expect your accommodation to look like a slum from the outside, but comfortable within. That is Taiwan for you.

- Salary
NT$60,000 per month. 5K less or more is standard

- OT
Expect it. Dont expect overtime rates though.

- Paid Air Fare
A few schools will pay a one way flight (minority though)

- Pension?
Are you kidding?

- Health?
Government health insurance is standard.

- Vacation
Generally unpaid, unless kindergarten. If your school offer paid vacation it's normally well earned (and still not enough).

- Hours worked per week
Aim for 25 average. Varies, depending on time of year. Less than 20 is bad. More than 30 is tough.

And dont always expect the conditions you agree to before heading to the island to be even remotely the same as those you find on arrival... (Was it Joy school if I remember correctly...)

I think LKJ answered the questions perfectly. For a clearer picture of the everyday life of a teacher in Taiwan, I recommend reading some of the articles at this website:
