Hi,
Is TESOL Arabia a good place to interview
for future teaching positions such as HCT Al Ain
or ADNOC ?
I was wondering if there is a section on their website that lists
which recruiters will be attending TESOL Arabia ?
Also, which days will these recruiters hold interviews at the conference ? |

The TESOL Arabia annual conference is a great place to interview. All large institutions hold interviews during the conference (HCT, UAEU, PI, ECAE, even outfits from Saudi and Qatar, etc.)
Only one hitch: you must register for the conference to be able to participate in the job fair. It ain't cheap: for members the early bird special this year amounts to AED450 and for non-members it is AED615. After Dec 28, the amounts go up to AED560 and AED725... Membership fees are AED175/year.
Check out their website:

If you don't register in advance as MrScaramanga suggests then it's even dearer: on-Site Registration (CASH ONLY) AED 680.00 members, AED 845.00 non-members
Then this lot are all in addition to the conference fee:
Enhancing Teacher Effectiveness (Certificate Course) (12 - 14 March) AED 700.00. Means you can't go to regular conference sessions if you want your certificate. An acquaintance did one of these a couple of years back and came away with a certificate calling him a Master Teacher - what a joke. All you had to do was go to certain sessions where they took attendance.
Vocabulary Acquisition and Teaching (11 March) AED 510.00
English and the Curriculum (11 March) AED 500.00
Job Fair AED 100.00 - if you are serious about getting a job you won't be seeing much of the conference.
Membership fees are 250dhs if you live outside the GCC countries. |

The TESOL Arabia Conference normally has 30+ employers, mainly from the Gulf region, interviewing or taking CVs. As they sign up, we will be adding their names to our website. though it's relatively early days now.
If anyone would like more information about the 2009 Conference & Exhibition, I'd be happy to try and supply it.

PS: Re Iamherebecause's previous comment about the certificate course precluding participation in the rest of the conference, this is a criticism I also had about previous certificate courses and we are trying to address it by ensuring there are plenty of certificate sessions outside the normal conference hours, which have been changed to a 9-5 schedule. All presenters on the certificate course are plenary, featured or specially-invited speakers. |
