I'll be moving to Prague (from the US) at the first of the year, enrolled in Oxford TEFL's Jan 5 course. I'm curious as to how much money I should have saved up before then. I have accommodations set up for the first 5 weeks. After that I'll need to rent an apartment, get my visa/permit, etc. Assuming I won't be receiving my first paycheck for several months, how much money should I bring? |

I'd recommend about $5000, including some spare cash hidden somewhere for a plane ticket back home (many do TEFL courses in Prague, but don't stay) if you are not coming over on a return ticket.
Also, remember that generally during the summer months the language schools close down for about 2 months, so you'll need some cash to tide you over. Some schools may promise you work over the summer months, but don't take their promises for granted. After all, it's not their problem if they change their mind and you can't pay the rent! |
