| Indeed, hanged...which holds when referring to the execution or suicide but not, I think, in other contexts...somewhat anomalous to "proven" (at least in American English) traditionally considered correct only in the context of court adjudications. IE, His hypothesis was proved wrong. We are innocent until proven guilty. |
It is a mute point really as common usage has been for hung and hanged to be used interchangebly.
When i was at school only pictures were hung but prisoners were hanged.
I am not a grammar nazi so my post was really tongue in cheek. |
Liked this one. A ''mute'' point?????? I've heard of ''moot'' points but ''mute'' ones? See me, boy! |

Dear Sheikh,
I'll let that great semantician, Mel Brooks, have the last word.
from "Blazing Saddles:"
The Waco Kid to Sheriff Bart: "I heard you were hung.
Sheriff Bart: "I am."
Regards
John
P.S. Well, it could be considered a "mute" point since it was written, not spoken. |

Well, I think Uncle Scotty will hang all of you by the Balls if you continue discussing the topic of hanging! |
That sounds painful. |
Yes. I would consider receiving such a punishment only if delivered by an extremely attractive woman. |

Nice to see you bring up Tom Harrison. One of my favourite "heroes". In passing, it is curious to observe how the early modern period to which he belonged, which I think saw the crystallization and apotheosis of the language, was far more versatile in spelling, punctuation and grammar. Yet those people knew what elegance of language was, in a way that many of our latter-day pedants never shall. Truly there is more than a dash of Wackford Squeers and Dotheboys Hall in ELT. |

Having checked out the concordances for "hanged" and "hung" at
www.webcorp.org.uk/ I think that I've got the hang of , er, 'hang'.
Why not check it out for yourself?
This website is free and easy to use...
There's nothing to get hung up about. (....er!...Hang on a minute!)
Returning to the original post's query; may I suggest kevlar? It is reputed to be very strong and to be lightweight, too, isn't it? |
