I have heard that rents are soaring here and there in Oman, though I have no real idea about how much we are talking about. I got an email from a recruiter (one i asked about earlier, not CFBT or whatshisname that everyone hates) who told me of positions opening in Nizwa and Muscat technical colleges. The salary was listed as 1385 OR, with a base rate of 1000 OR and the rest being housing and utilities allowances. Is that enough to afford a furnished flat in Nizwa for one if a flat isnt provided? Are flats easy to come by? |

Hi there, well I work in Muscat at the moment and my salary is nothing like as good as that, but i get by! Finding a reasonably priced flat in muscat is almost impossible unless you know people. We found ours only through contacts at work.
To get a really nice 1 / 2 bedroom flat in Muscat expect to pay about 500 OMR per month. Prices are expected to drop in a years time but who knows. In terms of your salary, yeah that sounds great. If you are coming to Oman to save money though, i would seriously advice against it. I love the country, the people, the landscape just about everything in this country and that is why I came, if you are coming for that reason then its great, but if you are coming to save money then i really doubt that you will get much from the experience.
In terms of Nizwa, i'm sure that you could find an appartment there without any great deal of hassle but you might need to spend a lot of time in a hotel, i know people who have lived in a hotel for 5 months before finding accomodation when the employer finds it. Anyway, got to go, p.m me if you need any more info,
