Hello everyone, I'm an American teaching in Buenos Aires. I've been here for 2 months, finishing out the year at a high school, and I'm thinking about where I want to spend the upcoming school year. I'm enjoying Buenos Aires and now know what type of salary I need to live comfortably (around 3000 pesos/mo), but I would really like to move to Montevideo. If anyone could shed any light on what type of monthly income in MTVD would compare to 3000/mo in BsAs or give me some clue as to what other people have said made for a comfortable life I would appreciate it. General comparisons between life in the two cities are also welcome. I've gotten one job offer here in BA for next year right at 3000 pesos/mo, but I'll hopefully get a few interviews in Uruguay in the upcoming months (mainly feb.). Any advice is welcome! Thanks!

Just hearsay here, but I've heard that Montevideo is like BsAs, except cheaper and has less foreigners. I'd personally go for MOntevideo and would love to visit Uruguay.

Thanks, and yea I'm pretty set on going there IF I can find something comparable to the offer I have here. I want to go, but I would rather live great here in BsAs than struggle in MTVD.

Depends on the cost of living too. Sure, you might make more in BsAs, but you-ll probably spend more too.

...seems to me you'd be able to clear $900 / mo doing privates in Montevideo.

at an institute, i'm not sure -- but i doubt it.

any way to compare that number to one in argentina?? Like living off 900 in Montevideo would be like living off 2000 in central Buenos Aires? Also, I think I'm pretty set on working for a bilingual colegio. For me, it allows for a more relaxing lifestyle and less worry about always looking for more work...

it may be difficult to make around 1000$/month in montevideo.. with $500 you should be ok.. but that doesn't include rent etc..
actually BA is cheaper than mVD.. because mvd is smaller food is more expensive.. and there aren't as many job opportunities..
there are some.. but you gotta look for them .

And let�s say I find a bilingual school that offers me a full time position of 30 hours. What should I expect to get paid, and would that provide for an equal standard of living as 3k in BsAs, living in Recoleta, Palermo or Belgrano?
