If you are lead for your particular program, you'll be given fewer teaching hours. Most instructors (there is only one level) teach 18 - 20 hours/week. As lead, you might get 12 - 15 contact hours.
You don't mention your qualifications - if they need engineering faculty badly, you might be able to negotiate as high as $17,5000AED/month but I see on other posts that the standard opening salary is about $15,500AED.
Emirati students, while likeable - often are not very mature for their ages. That being said, in the Men's colleges you often get older students who are married with families and are working - so they are somewhat better.
hope that helps |

I Hold a PhD in engineering with around 8 years of teaching experience and 6 years of industrial experience. Am presently working as assistant Professor.
So at HCT there are no postions of Lecturer, Assistant Professor , Associate Professor and Professor.
What do you mean by "Lead a program" what is the expected role /duties of a "Lead faculty Research"
What about english medium schooling for children in UAE and average montly household expenses while maintaning a car.
Are appointments given by HCT contarctual or permanent.

HCT aims to become the applied research centre of the area and certain colleges have been named Centres of Excellence.
Lead faculty will lead teams researching areas of interest to industry. Only D.Phils can apply for lead faculty, hence the advertisements. Lead faculty will have reduced hours to allow for research but all faculty will have reduced hours if accreditation goes ahead. HCT does not have lecturers, professors, etc.; currently, there are faculty members, chairs and some supervisors. There is no tenure, contracts are usually for three years although the first year is probation. Costs are dependent on lifestyle but it would be difficult without a car, two cars if you have children.
There is English medium schooling in the UAE, more choice in larger towns, and various curricula, English, US, Australian, I.B. etc. Places in the better schools are not always easy to get and it's not always possible to get all children into the same school. |

Why do I find this amusing? Because when funding was made available to set up a national research centre of excellence UAEU, ZU and HCT were invited to bid. HCT pulled out because as yet they don't really have a research profile at all. And it takes several years to establish one. Not sure where things are up to now but I know that one strand in the new national centre will be genetics/genomics etc, and I think environment/water management etc is another priority. |

I hope that genetics is going to be a strand because one of my students in the B Ed wants to pursue that field. She'll be thrilled to hear that the national center (yes, I am Americanizing the spelling, lol!) will meet her interests and needs.

These are the four Centres of Excellence which will form the National research Foundation:
Center for the Study of Bilingualism and Bilingual Education in the Arab World, Zayed University
Water and Environment Center of Excellence, UAE University
Genes and Diseases Research Center, UAE University
Emirates Center for Nanosciences and Nanoengineering, UAE University
I think they will be largely focussed on postdoctoral research to begin with. So ZU has the language/education one and the 3 applied science centres of excellence are UAEU. |

So with the information that HCT has pulled out of the Centre of excellence bid why are there so many Job opening in the name of Lead Faculty Research Engg.
And Please post about the procedure adopted by HCT for interview. And who all are the interviwers generally. It must be on phone for international job seekers.

Well I guess someone near the top of HCT management decided HCT had missed the boat and decided to try and play catch-up. Serious researchers would be advised to check the lab facilities and budgets before accepting a post though. I have one friend who recently beat a hasty retreat from Qatar when the promised research lab turned out not to have half the equipment promised nor a budget for consumables.
HCT could probably make a running start at educational research, it's the other areas I would have doubts about. |
