|
|
Hi all, I'm new to this board. I'm interested in teaching English abroad, but for approximately 6 months instead of the usual 1 year contract that I have seen so far. I am a native speaker from USA and am asian by blood.
The places I'm looking to teach are either Asia (Korea, Vietnam, or China) or South America.
Does something like this exist? ANY information or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Apart from being a native speaker of English, what other qualifications can you offer a prospective employer: a college degree, teaching experience, TEFL certificate, etc.? |

I have a B.A. from a 4 year state university, 2 years of teaching experience (tutoring in both English and mathematics). I do not have a TEFL certificate, but if one is necessary, I would get one. |

Try Asia, summer camps or winter camps. WHV, working holiday visas are another option
For China, sure, there are contracts out there like that. South America, just come and teach informally for a bit. I kow lots of schools here in Peru that would like a teacher for 6 months. PM me if you're intersted.
Another thing, try talking to the school, telling them, and seeing if they'll change your contract to six months. |

Working holiday visa is not an option for Americans in Japan. I suspect in most other countries, too. Have not heard of anyone getting any for China, Vietnam, or Korea anyway. |
