Hi
Can anyone tell me if it is usual to be offered a post and told by the school to enter on a tourist visa, then they will do the employment pass once there? In some countries this seems to be acceptable, in others not -how about Malaysia?
Many thanks! |

As far as I know, that's not done. You need to get a work visa to enter the country. That's what I had to do, anyway. Mind you, the Malaysian immigration office is so inept that I didn't get my work visa until the semester was half over.
Having been here over 3 months, I would caution you about coming. The heat and humidity are terrible, and there are a lot of muggings. I have also found that getting decent groceries here is harder, but that may be just my individual situation.
Good luck. |

So sorry you are not enjoying Malaysia. Where are you living?
As the work visa took so long, I presume you had already started work before it arrived..so did you enter on a social visit pass?
Thanks!

Oh, I'm slowly adjusting, I suppose, but I find this country and my job here more of a challenge than any other. I wouldn't try to dissuade anyone from coming here, I was just trying to caution.
I live in the KL area, and have a job at a uni. I came in the middle of last semester because the immigration office took so long to process my work visa, on which I finally came over.
Thanks for your concern, and good luck to you, wherever you are. |
