So here is my issue everyone. I (24 year old male) as well as my girlfriend (she's 23) have always wanted to teach english overseas and for both of us the time is finally right.
Problem is, I only have a college diploma which is not a 3-4 years degree and my girlfriend was a Major in Art at Uni for 2 years but decided to leave feeling art was more of a hobby than a career. either way we're below the normal qualifications for teaching english as a second language.
We have signed up for a 100 hour TESOL course. and will be done feb 1st.
She has had many years babysittig, and worked at a daycare for a bit as well. I have done some peer tutoring in highschool and of course have babysat kids on occasion as well.
Do you think that our qualifications are enough to land us teaching jobs in China? It doesn't necessarily have to be at the same school as long as they are close to eachother. tho if it was the same school they would save on having to pay for 2 apartments.
I was considering the fact that if only 1 of us got a job the other could find work while there. but i have now read you can't transfer a travel visa to a work visa while you're in China. so that idea is gone.
So mainly what do you think our chances are? Amazing pay isn't important, but at the same time we don't want to worry about living or eating.
If you have any tips, links or anything that would help us that would be much appreciated.

There's no problem with your qualification, and the couple status brings you advangages in the bargain cause many schools welcome couples and prepare bigger apartments for them while it is tougher to find 2 schools close to each other. How close is close? neighboring cities? Different parts of a city? |

Yes, schools like couples. Your best option. if you are a "couple". You might want to look up spouse visas, another possibilty. But you are not married, so there may or may not be problems. For a spouse visa I am guessing you must be , well, married... but who knows if you need proof, or what proof.
Some schools are pretty lax about what a "couple" may be. Other schools, if you are not married, they will give you a lot of grief about sharing a apartment. This is often true if the apartment is on campus (thus clearly owned by the school), something to consider |

Apply well enough in advance. Without a 4-yr college diploma, you will have difficulty finding a decent job. (thats legal) |

ty for responses.
ya i'd say about 95% of the jobs i looked at all require a BA. now i have a question, does it have to a be a 4year BA? just cause my gf is gonna go back to school if we can't go (i might go back too) but she only wants a 3 year BA. only dif is its a BA in general not in honours. Not sure if that makes a difference as well for later. |

You will be perfect at teaching English then. This is exactly the description of what the job requires, however you will need to sing songs and play guitar as well.

3 or 4 year degree doesn't make a difference. You would probably get a job with just your college diploma. While most school advertise that they want a teacher with a BA in reality its not always possible for them to get that. Apply with your college diploma and see how you go. |
