I am thinking of coming to teach in Qingdao in March to teach on a Z Visa. I have taught in Beijing and Korea but know Qingdao and a some people there quite well. I also have a number of contacts which would help me to get set up with private lessons.

I have been a way for a couple of years so am wondering if it is currently legal to do private tutoring on a Z and if not, are the laws enforced harshly (as in Korea).

Does anyone have any further advice on living/working in Qingdao?

After you arrive on your Z visa the organisation that arranged the paperwork for you to apply for a Z visa will apply for a Foreign Expert Certificate for you. You will then need to get a medical. The FEC and clear Medical Certificate are required for you to apply for a Residency Permit. You will only be able to work legally for the organisation that applied for your FEC.

Taking on private lessons is always a risk but one that many FT take. Your choice really.

for truly private classes, the cops are not going to stop you from having friends over for a cup of tea nor are they going to stop your friends from giving you a gift out of their own generosity, Chinese people like to give their friends gifts. Unless you have fliers or advertisements out who is to say it happened differently.
