Why do the people of Torreon love it so much here?

My response is not about Torreon, rather about my personal experience being married into the culture and truly living it with friends, family and inlaws for nearly 10 years now. I wasn't going to comment in this thread originally, but since it has evolved......

Yet, I know quite a few single mothers here who don't get support from the fathers of their children. And I have even heard a few stories where the adult children are quite horrible to each other - robbing, fighting (verbally and physically), and just being mean people.

Dysfunction happens here just as much, it's just that foreigners don't really get a chance to see it if they are not so involved. Mexicans are great at putting on a good face. My mother-in-law raised 3 children with no child support. She worked outside the home as a waitress in a tourist hotel. Her family has plenty of battles. Grandma was married more than a few times. (Yes, it happens in Mexico too) Mother-in-law's children are ALL very independent and do their own things. When she asks for money, my husband and his siblings contribute when they can. Grandma on the other hand seems to be quite tight with her money and is sitting on her assets, sts.

My husband was 25 and living on his own when I met him...so there goes the generalization of all Mexicans living at home until they get married. No ex-wives, no kids, didn't want any, wants to travel the world. PERFECTO! (We are still here in Mazatlan, but that's my doing, not his...he's ready to go. Even to another area of Mexico rather than abroad...though he loved Canada.) He does NOT hate his city, at all.
I on the other hand, have travelled the world thanks to one of my job requirements, but I happen to love Mexico. Not all cities here, but many. I would never live in DF after visiting there several times. (Sorry guys.) I grew up in the Yukon (next door to Alaska) so I prefer what I have here in Mazatlan. Nice balance of culture and laid-back attitude. Mazatlan's history in Mexico is different. It has a Chinese influence plus it's a working port city. People get up and work early here. The summer heat and humidity is evil, so foreigner teachers and tourists don't stick around for several months of the year. The winter suits them, but the summer does not. And the summer is lengthy. Locals still love their Mazatlan. Mazatlecans are extremely proud people. I would have to say they would rival those of Torreon for pride and "home team" stuff. We do have 21 kms of lovely beaches but that doesn't seem to be the deciding factor. It's "home" and locals seem to always come back. Well maybe except for the "Dog Whisperer" who came from our State. He is making it big in Hollywood.
