Dear scot47,
Sorry - the last time I was there was 1978. I imagine it's changed a bit since then.
But even then it was big, noisy, polluted and quite exciting, with some great views.
Oh, that was on my way into the country. On my way out, in 1979, with the Islamic Revolution still ongoing, it was even more exciting. The sound of automatic rifle fire in the night was, well, stimulating.
Regards,
John

Very bad, Uncle Scotty!
There must be something in your file that has upset Mullah Ahmadinejad !!
Well, I can see only one reason why you were refused the visa, and the reason is that you are a double agent with MI6 and the Bulgarian secret service!! Laughing

Were you actually refused a visa, or was it simply a case of there not being enough time to obtain one? I know from experience that getting an Iranian visa requires several weeks, even if your application is uncomplicated, since all applications have to get prior approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (rather like with Saudi visas). I also know that, with the exception of citizens of the US and probably Canada, subjects of her Brittanic Majesty have the most difficult time obtaining Iranian visas.

Welll, I guess Uncle Scotty does not see himself as a subject of her Brittanic Majesty! It is harram for him! Laughing

Fly from Dubai to Kish (take a life jacket --- those planes are old).

In Kish - ask your hotel to refer you to a travel company, and arrange to visit Shiraz.

The travel company can often produce onward travel visas in just a few days.

(personally - I'd skip Tehran -- go to Shiraz and Esfahan).

IF you get a visa, Shiraz, Esfahan, Kerman, Kashan would be the top picks, Tehran is terrible unless you have someone to helicopter you around.

I go most every year for the International Carpet exhibition, (yes, Americans, Brits and everyone else get visas for that).

Well, I do not think Uncle Scotty wants to go to Tehran for the International Carpet Exhibition! Bulgaria is full of rags and carpets, especially in Chiprovtsi!
Uncle Scotty was planning to go to Tehran for something else! Laughing

Rags or rugs? Come on Uncle Bond, be specific! Lots of rags AND rugs in the Middle East as far as I remember. Baldy Arabs like to hide their shiny pates.

Radlinrol displays the racism and Islamophobia that we have come to expect.

Surely you can do better, Uncle Scotty? Wink Reminds me of the twaddle written by schoolmasters in their end of term reports. I seem to remember you were one of those splendid gents. Men among boys, boys among men.
