Hi All,
I'm taking a break from my university job in the U.S. to spend some time in Southeast Asia. My original plan was to spend most of January vacationing in Thailand, arriving in Hanoi end of January to settle into a place and look for work, preferably in the area of corporate training..
Now I hear that it's difficult to find accommodations and impossible to find work during Tet, that nothing's available again until March. Is that true? Would I be better off staying in Thailand until the end of February?
Many thanks (or is it much thanks ) in advance. |

Just a sentence or two, if I may impose.
Thanks. |

Work wise things do slow down around the Tet period. Some places shut for a a few days some for a month. Not the best time to be looking for work, but thats not to say it would be impossible to find something.
Tet is a great time to be in Vietnam as the locals really love to share the culture with you so you may like to come an experience it and not wait until it's over. I love it...family, food and beer. Just like Christmas at home.
Also, it is not impossible to find accomodation in Hanoi during Tet so you wont be on the street. |

There's a lot of options in the area of corporate training but the implied quals you have should open a lot of doors, perhaps you should apply to RMIT in Hanoi online now.
I'm in HCMC but you could go to saigonesl.com and try to get Stosskraft to to give you some pointers as he's been there for 3 years or more. He seems to have a pretty good heart but Hanoi is flooded right now with the worst flood in 3 decades so he might be slow to reply.
Truth is, the market is pretty open right now - I doubt you'll have problems just showing up whenever! Enjoy the adventure. |

Thanks for the responses, guys. I think I'll just contact some potential employers and have them tell me when they're ready for me |

My school just close for 2 weeks for Tet holidays. I know they're looking for a part-time business management teacher. You can apply if you're interested. PM me for contact details. |
