Yep, 'tis a recycled thread. We've had a lot of new members in the last 6 months, so 'what's old is new again'. Very Happy

@Alitas...Sorry if my sparkly pants intimidated you. I'd had no idea they would be so popular at the time. Laughing By the way, your name always reminds me of an Eagles song, "Warm smell of colitas..." (I don't know how "Alitas" is pronounced but that is how I imagine it.)

Markoinbangkok had the best response so far! Toooo funny! Laughing

Eleg Lanza-Armonia porque es lo que mi abuela me llamaba. Significa la lanza de la armona que era verdad porque trajo a me abuela y abuelo de la separacin nuevamente dentro de un unin.

I chose Lanza-Armonia because it's what my grandmother used to call me. It means the Lance of Harmony which was kinga true cuz it brought my grandmother and grandfather out of separation back into a marrage.

Kinda cool huh?

I think Jude was taken. I've never seen Jude, though. Where are you?

To cut and paste my reply from the old thread...

Quote:
Well, lajzar happens to be a sort of family nickname on my mother's side of the clan. As for the avatar, I saw capergirl's, wanted it, but immediately realised it would a) confuse people between myself and capergirl, and b) confuse people as to my gender.

Just to expand on that, the full form, "ta' lajzar" means something on the lines of "of Lazarus". Presumably one of my ancestors was named Lazarus.

The monkey avatar I use is a picture of the colobus redbacked monkey, native to Zanzibar island. It is an endangered species, very tame, and about 500 exist. You aren't allowed to approach them or feed them, but they'll come up and climb over you if you sit still long enough.

cg, bring back Ms Sparklypants please!

Snoopy was just a nickname I got when schoolteaching in the UK. I get emails from people now in their thirties who feel more comfortable with it than my real name.

My surname, in French, means "village idiot". I therefore use a pseudonym when booking a holiday there.

Snoopy, that's funny.

My sister's name is Randi Sue. I don't know what my parents were thinking.

When we moved to Hong Kong she had to use Suzy.

Now she's Randi again.

I originally chose Shaman as it is an intermediary position betwen worlds (or languages, as is our case). Lately I've thought about it as such:

Sh*tty Hockey At Montreal Ad Nauseum.

Go Leafs Go!

Smile

Or, with the less than 1% vacancy rate:

Seeking Housing Around Montreal Actually Neverending.

Crying or Very sad

I think mine is obvious. I chose it to honour my native Tonga.

My name is from the Moody Blues idea of "Thinking is the best way to travel" lyric - MindTraveller (extra "l" to confuse people if I'm USA-American or from the UK.

Mine came from a lesson i was teaching. The DoS asked the students what they were studying and they said" we're doing the future with will.
I don't know this teacher, where is he? and they pointed me out.
The name stuck.
I suppose it is better than 'going to'

Snoopy = village idiot? What do they think of Charlie Brown's Snoopy?

Yaramaz...what an excellent name for a pet. I'll need to remember that.

So, Capergirl, what is your real name? For some reason, Heather sticks in my mind. When are you coming to China? We have NAture Girl, and before we had another >>>>girl. I can't remember ... Song Girl. Her posts were also cool.

I'm Chris (from henan .. feel free to join my new Henan group and pick out your future school). I wish I could have been cool like Denise..and call myself Chris, but there were already too many Chris's (Denise is cool for a girl with a beard)

36 ... how old I was when I left grad work to come to China for one year.

Arioch

1) A King that fought with Abraham ( my students love it when I tell them that Arabs and Jews are half brothers)

2) A Captain of the Guard that helped Daniel ( if I remember)

3) Going in the opposite direction... a series of books by Micahel Moorcock, whcih when I was younger i read a lot of. a being/former king servant of Chaos who actually fights against chaos, kind of. Kind of an eternal soldier fighting for what he can not have himself, kind of

PS, that reminds me of the time when I went into the bookstore with a friend. I asked the girl, in perfect innocence, "Do you have any Moorcock?" not realizing how this sounded. Honestly. My friend looked at me in shock as soon as i said this . Bu hao yisi

arioch36--

Do you really think I'm cool?!?!? Aw, shucks, I'm blushing!

As to the beard--(wait, wasn't there a "what's your avatar?" thread a while back?) I've got this here fellow, minus the big red background, tattooed on my back. Why?

1) Dionysus Arrow Denise: my name is kinda derived from his (woo-hoo! I'm a wine goddess!)

2) I very nearly, but not quite, majored in Classics, and I found Dionysus to be the most fascinating of all of the gods & heroes & miscellaneous characters

And really, I swear that I do not have a beard! I look nothing like the little dude in the picture.

Wink

@lajzar...I'd forgotten your explanation but it's all coming back to me now. As for the sparkly pants, I don't think I can bring them back. They were just too 80s. Laughing Seriously, though, I just dyed my hair and cut it so I could use a new avatar to reflect the "new me". When I find one, you'll know. Wink

@arioch36...Good memory. Cool
