Where would be the best place to change travel cheques in HCMC?

Hello there,

We had the same problem, went to about eight banks before we found one that would change Euro trav. checks.

The place we found in is called Rex Hotel across the street from Saigon Tax Center in the Central Bus. District.

They will change up to US $500/wk. Although we only waited about 4 or 5 days before we went back.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

Thanks, I've also discovered that you can draw money from your bank account back home from ATM's as long as your card and the ATM are compatible with Maestro and Cirrus....

sounds a better option than the potential of theft.

Whats the maximum the ATM will give at one go? I would like to withdraw via ATM as well but the bank back home charges a hefty fee for each withdrawal.

Sorry, don't know that as yet.

I have done it in the Philippines but some days the amount changes depending on how much cash the ATM has been loaded with

Last I checked, the maximum ATM withdrawal was 6 million dong in a day (in three 2 mil increments).

Some useful information (a rarity here it seems) :
Donga bank are the only bank -that I have found- that dont charge a withdrawal fee. Even HSBC wanted to charge me a fee, and I bank with them back home.
Obviously your bank back home will charge you - unless you have done your homework and chosen a bank with zero ATM fee for withdrawal abroad.
