For ideas on the price of rentals have a look at the local paper onlin - www.gulf-daily-news.com. I've been looking recently and most places seem to work out around the 450+ mark - depends what you're looking for though (obviously). Do you really want to be in Manama?? Adliya is a good area as is the Mahooz area........depending on what you like - Juffair could also be a possibility.
On 1,900BD a month you should be able to manage to save a fair chunk...though obviously not if you'll be frequenting the well known fleshpots (ask Scot47 for details ).
Hope that helps.............. |

Kaw: Thank you for the feedback. I am encouraged by what I saw in the link you suggested. I'll consider Adliyar and Mahooz areas as suggested.
Do landlords require advance payments? How many months? Thanks again. |

Ify - sorry can't help with what estate agents want up front - in my day (going back a couple of years now) think it was a month or something similar but don't quote me on that. When looking at places to rent - make sure you find out if price is inclusive (electricity, water, municipality tax) or not.
Like many places agents are unlikely to take you to cheaper places on their books and will say the apartment advertised for 450 has gone but they have a great one for 750......or 600 or whatever. Make sure you say you want to spend less than you really do - they'll probably have something - the extra is just their commission prices are often negotiable as well.
Again am not sure but think most of the decent places you'd want to work for would provide housing.
Scot47 - ah yes.........the book...........and how is the research going?
Have a good Xmas! |

My information is also a little dated, but generally landlords in Bahrain do not (or didn't) require several months advance rent. As far as I can recall, I only paid one month in advance - not even a deposit. Obviously the situation may vary depending on the individual landlord, however unlike in some other parts of the Gulf, there is no 'tradition' in Bahrain of demanding huge rental payments up front. |
