|
|
I'll be moving to Dhahran in the new year and I'm very curious to find out how the coast in the area is. How are the beaches in the vicinity- say within an hour's drive out of town? Are they accessible by 2 WDs? Is it easy to find your own deserted spot for a swim? I don't expect anything too pristine but as long as the water is relatively clean and has something resembling sand I'd be very happy. Thanks for any responses. |

Not sure about public beaches but there are good private beaches ! Including places where you can probably PAY for access. Some employers (eg KFUPM) provide beaches for their faculty/staff.
Half Moon Bay is the place. |

That's one thing there is no shortage of in this country, on beaches, in cities, on roads, in houses, outside malls and hospitals.... |

The public beaches in the EP are mostly filthy and not worth a visit. It would also be difficult to find a private spot where you could swim, and certainly impossible for a woman to swim at a public beach in a swimming costume. Private beaches, as scot47 says, are an entirely different matter.
There are also some very nice private clubs with beaches in Bahrain. Much more cheerful and worth the drive, IMHO. |

There is a couple of good private beaches on Half Moon Bay.
BAE and Aramco have facilities there and there is also a private beach there where the trolly dollies bask themselves when trapped in Saudi for a day.
The name eludes me at the moment but if you are western you can pay to get in.
Of course there are the compounds with swimming pools as well.
Too hot for sunbaking in my opinion but nice for a dip. |

Sunbathing ? In Saudi Arabia ? The sun is to be AVOIDED as all sensible locals will tell you. Rain ? AAh that is fifferent. That is when you go out and enjoy the bounty of the LORD ! |
