Hi! So, I'm a University student about to graduate. I'm looking to pay off some of my crushing burden of loan debt, and not have to subside purely on moisture sucked out of dish rags and road salt while doing so. I heard that teaching ESL was a great way to do this, so I came here.
I bet you guys don't see a lot of members like me, huh? [/sarcasm]
Anyway, I'm looking to teach English anywhere that will pay me well enough. To this, I've been reading through the forums, over the jobs posted to the Cafe, and all the sites people link to. It's pretty good reading!
I've tossed an application in to JET, but I don't expect to hear back from them. I haven't posted a resume to the boards yet, because I wanted to ask you-all what to look for in a respectable recruiting agency/school. I've been talking to my Uni's international office, but they've been about as useful as a sack of second-hand fenceposts, so I'm pretty much on my own here.
I found these two example sites browsing Craig's List. Now, my first instinct is to treat anything from Craig's List as if it had leprosy, but I checked out these guys and their website seemed professional enough, they were even registered here as a licensed recruiting agency, which counts for something, right? I just don't know how much it counts for, is the thing.
I also found these guys, I have been e-mailing them a bit, the creator even gave me a phone number to call, but it's located in Korea, and I have no idea how to make international calls on my cellphone.
So, you all-knowing forum elders, is there anything about these guys that set your BS-dar off? What should I be on the look-out for? Is there any sort of a blacklist, or a registry of reliable offices anywhere? Would calling the Consulate be of any assistance?
I am pretty much lost in the woods here, your help would be greatly appreciated. |
