We always talk about work, so let's talk about vacations for a change.
Since entering this field, what has been your best vacation? Where did you go and what did you do? |

I don't think I can say what my best holiday was. From memory all of my holidays have been great. I think when you go on holiday your mind goes into automatic happy mode.
Earlier this month I went to Sri Lanka for Eid( the muslim Haj holiday) for 2 weeks. Even though I had a motorbike crash and had to go to a hospital every day to get bandages changed. I still had a great time. Lovely country, lovely people, fantastic seafood and very cheap beer. |

I do not enjoy vacations much any more. I do enjoy going back to wife and daughters in the Balkans. Being a "gastarbeiter" is a bum deal. |

The best one for me must be the one to Hong Kong. I can't remember most of it (probably way it's the best) but I arrived back in Jinan in one piece and had a sense of relief. Does that qualify?

Greece. I didn't do anything particularly wild, and I was only there for I think 5 or 6 days, and I've heard oh-so-many negative things about Athens, but it had been at the top of my list of places to go since I was in the 4th grade and was introduced to Greek mythology. I was in awe the entire short time that I was there (except at night when I returned to my scuzzy hostel--yech!), and I would love to go back and spend a decent amount of time there.

Many moons (and a lot of hair) ago, as a university student, I rode my bicycle from the Toronto area to the ROckies, where home was.
Took a month, met people from all over the world, and ended all too quickly. |

Australia. I rented a motorcycle in Sydney and spent a month riding a big loop around the eastern half of the continent. Great place for a road trip! |

Thailand. I went for a teacher training course in BKK, but had a week afterwards of hitting the beaches in the south. It was the best time ever, but too short. I will be back!

Hey Struelle, we have the same "best vacation". I spent a week in Phuket a number of years ago and I still dream about it...heavenly. |

Russia, last May. Was not sure what to expect from Moscow and St Pete's and was blown away by the architecture, the food and the history.
2nd runner up is my recent Chinese New year trip to Brisbane. |

Vacation? My "best" vacations would probably be avaerage at best, but here goes:
1. I spent a few days in Toronto in July '99. Went there for a job interveiw (which only took a day) and then spent the rest of the time sight seeing with faimly I have there, and eating Polish food.
2. A day trip I took to Kyoto with a Japanese friend of mine. Expensive but fun (and my first trip there.)
Uh ... I believe that's everything that qualifies as a vacation in terms of going somewhere for the purposes of relaxing. |
