Have been looking at a DOS position offered by English for Life, Chile recently. They are offering $800,000 to $1,000,000 Chilean Pesos a month, flights, 1 month's temporary accommodation paid and visa paid.
I don't know much about salaries in Chile so would appreciate any feedback on that and anything you may know about the school before I bother applying!
Thanks |

that sounds like an excellent deal if its as easy as that sounds. (if your only question is about salary... that sounds quite desirable). thats a really high salary for an English teacher, getting flights paid is rare too. the visa process costs very little (if youre from the US, not horribly expensive otherwise either) so thats not a big deal but its good they'll be helping you through the process.
you should be good finding a permanent place to stay within that month and your salary will easily cover living costs. for reference, minimum monthy wage is around 160,000, and wages as an english teacher completely vary but you'd probably be making more than that but not much more than double on your own.
to me, that program sounds like a great deal but you may want to think about what the benefits of that are compared to drawbacks... does the program allow you to live where you choose/what city? are you going to have a really large work schedule with no free time? are you guaranteed those hours and that pay or is that just what you could be making (many teachers have a problem of getting enough hours...), etc... |

I don't think you guys read the original post correctly. The position offered was for a DOS. Teaching is not high on their task list and there is no issue regarding whether the hours are guaranteed or not.
The benefits listed were as promised. I happen to know the parties concerned and this position has been filled successfully.
800.000 CHP monthly is not actually that high a salary considering the amount of work involved and the fact that you have to bear the burden of working with lazy, inefficient Chileans in admin. |
