Has anyone been in the UAE and had someone fall ill (or worse Sad ) back home? What happened? How did your employer treat the situation? Were you allowed to fly home?

Thanks!

I know of people who went home because of a serious illness of a parent or a child studying back home, but they were not gone for a long period of time.

I suspect that it depends very much on your employer (and your relation to the person who is ill).

I was at HCT (Dubai Women's) when my father became critically ill (and died after I arrived). I got the standard 10 days paid leave.

Some HCT directors are more "lenient" than others. The 10 days paid is standard across the board, but some will allow you leave without pay. A lot depends on your personal relationship with the director (i.e. whether or not you're viewed as a valued employee).
