So when you posed your initial question you were acting unwittingly and under your 'culture shock', not knowing what answers you might generate here?

I don't think it's called a "visa run" if you are not coming back. Idea Idea

So you don't want to do a visa run; you want to do a runner. Well, that seems to be in keeping with your level of professionalism.

If he/she leaves after their contract expires, then what do you call it, Big Guy?

Happy Trails Mr. Patrick.

Laos is neither a convenient country to go to for renewing your Chinese visa, nor to depart China from, in that you must first go to a Laotian consulate in a city which may or may not be near you, fill out the forms, pay the not inconsequential fee, wait for the visa to be issued, then go back to pick it up. By the time you accomplished all of that, your employer could well have you securely under lock-down, if that's what you fear it might come to. Try Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia -- any nearby country that will give you a no-fee visa upon entry.
