When does the visa office in Hong Kong close for the Chinese new year? When do they reopen? I'm talking about a work visa.

I think they are still processing Z visas there.

On this government website: http://www.fmcoprc.gov.hk/eng/zgqz/bgfwxx/,

The following is the first paragraph:

Visa applicants are increasing in a large number and need longer waiting time in the visa office recently. If you don't reside or work in Hong Kong permanently, you are required to apply Chinese visafrom the Embassy or Consulate-General of Peoples' Republic of China in yourresident country. You are welcome to China for tourism, business and visit.

Does anyone know for certain if HK is no longer processing visas for those who live in Mainland China? If the above paragraph is true, this is a serious matter for many people.

Any recent personal experiences would be most helpful here.

It is true.

I had to use visa agent in the US for my last job. Only other option is return home and come back.

The URL I quoted earlier works fine for me.

I have since had some correspondence with the HK visa office. I must say they answered my questions promptly - same day.

For a Canadian, they will give you a 2-entry visa so you can enter China two times on that one sticker. They tell me they will not give you a longer term visa unless you have an HK ID card.

And they will give you two-day rush service without using an agency.

I don't know if the process is the same for US citizens.

'The website you browsed has been deleted'

You need to delete the comma from the end of that URL.

The snippet of the 'map' they provide is not much use as it is fuzzy. Try this instead:
