kparise, Aeon/Amity will place you and your partner in the same city if asked (i.e. you can ask for that and only agree on schools that meet that criteria) but will supply one single-occupancy appartmnet for each of you (and deduct 42000 from each of your salaries monthly for the apartments).

You may of course choose mainly to both live in one of them, but the two of you you will be paying for both (subsidised) apartments.

As many of you know, and as I am quickly learning, there are always exceptions. As a current AEON teacher, I know of 2 married foreign couples that are sharing AEON apartments. So it is by no means forbidden. In both cases, each person has 50% of the rent deducted from their pay. One person I met during training moved in with his wife after she was already here and working as an AEON teacher. The time difference was only a few months so I don't know if they were hired at the same time or not. Bascially, the company had an apartment waiting for him (as they do for all teachers, the apartment being part and parcel of your contract) and he and his wife just had to decide if they were going to live in his apartment or in hers. They ended up deciding to live in hers as it was more central for both of them to commute to work and his contract was amended accordingly. I believe the other couple both applied at the same time, were both placed in the same city, and have been sharing the apartment since day one.

Keep in mind, that this is all out of the Kansai Head Office and things may very well be different in other areas of Japan. Also, they just happened to be very lucky in that there were two schools close to each other (same city) that needed teachers at the same time type of thing.

Mind you, I don't know how they manage to live in such close quarters without killing each other. My boyfriend came to stay with me for 3 days during the New Year's break and I was starting to feeling a little claustrophobic by the time he went back to Osaka Smile

Here is AEON's official policy, as stated on FAQ #13 of their web site.
Quote:
Q13 Do I have to live in the AEON apartment?
A13 AEON teachers are required to live in the apartment provided by the company for the full contract period. Based on the needs of a successful candidate, AEON may consider other housing arrangements, but this decision is entirely up to the company.
