I have been in China for 1 1/2 years and just left for good... I wouldn't recomend it for anyone unless you get the following.. 10,000rmb, Free housing, all visa costs paid by the school up front, National Holiday months are paid the same as regular months, and 8,000 end of contract bonus..
Also, this would be a 25 teaching hour per week contract with weekends off. People need to stick to their guns and not settle for less. The Chinese need to learn a big lesson that they can't continue to abuse foreigners.. Everyone enjoy the middle shit of the Earth... Cheers and beers from afar!!! |

I can sympathise with the above. There are many many places on the planet that I have found more palatable.
But I suggest you see your experience in China as giving you a valuable benchmark of how bleak a country can be.....
It would have been an interesting place 80 years ago... |

10,000 RMB/month jobs are few and far between outside of the major metropolitan cities. And they usually entail you having to find your own apartment.
I agree with the housing and visa costs though. The only way I'd take a job with a school that didn't provide housing was if they provided a handsome housing allowance.
Paid vacation days are also certainly important. China only has about 2 weeks of holiday per year. Would it really be that much to ask an employer to pay for those days off? The extended holidays, however, that public schools and universities is a different story. Those holidays last months and it's not fair to ask any school to pay a teacher for sitting on their butt.
End of contract bonuses start at around 1000 USD for completing a one year contract. Right now, that's about ~6800 RMB, which is reasonable. |

The visa is an important one and one reason why I am happier in China than Thailand. My school pays for my visa and takes care of the entire process. |

I'm not sure I wouldn't make the same argument for my home country, but it's particularly true of China: anyone who goes into the teaching profession for the money is likely to face disappointment. (Those who come here who don't regard teaching as a profession, but simply a means to finance their travels, etc., can hardly expect much more than what they get.) For those who really enjoy teaching, however, China's not such a bad place to be, even if it can be frustrating and only sporadically remunerative. That said, anyone contemplating staying in China to teach long-term should carefully consider the points the OP has raised. Most of the available jobs are probably best for young people without any students loans or family obligations, and more mature individuals who are just waiting for their superannuation to kick in. |

What China Pete said so well.
Different people are motivated by different things.
There are those who in fact pay in order to volunteer here.
Others only consider the bottom line.
Still others look for lifestyle, proximity to in-laws or pure Mandarin, etc.; everybody has different reasons to stay.
Fortunately, everybody is free to choose.
Vote with your feet. |

Well, for me, at least, China is worth it. But it depends on your own personal goals and objectives |

Why do people on the internet resort to attacking someone's punctuation, typo's, spelling ect. Especially when its something as simple as "..." which I interpret as what would be a pause for effect in spoken english.

We understand your frustration.
Would you provide us with a few details of your teaching stint(s)? Were you at a university, language school, public school, etc.?
Was the lack of adequate financial compensation your primary motivating factor for departing? If not, please provide us with other reasons (maybe the top three would be a good start)?
THANKS! |

What is really ironic is that the OP is now fishing for a teaching job in Turkey. If he thinks China abuses foreigners.... |
