Well I have come and experienced this teaching thing as a dark skinned asian appearance Australian. Despite taking all warnings and views into account it was a bloody hard pill to swallow. Travelling with my partner who is of European descent we were looked down at when walking into our interviews, as she too had dark skin. I was even asked if we were siblings!! God we are Australians with different ethnic backgrounds yet the white Taiwanese teacher can't see that.
Yes the racism is there and for a developing country I only hope they can change their views on what a foreigner is and looks like. So the final result was:
Racism:1
Dark skin foreigners:0 |

Sorry to hear about your experiences.
I'll be travelling to Taiwan with my black American wife in June. I don't relish it...  |

Sorry to hear that things haven't worked out. I recall giving you my two bits before you arrived, and hope that I didn't lead you the wrong way with the advice that I gave.
