I was told that if u had less than 5 ties to Canada u were able to avoid taxes.
so...
one bank account - only Chq
one Credit card
passport
International drivers license (not a tie b/c its intl)
I got rid of OHIP, investments, insurance (car, house, medical)...
I sold major belongings like my cars.
I just canceled everything i could...

I am not sure what you can do once you have left and come back but the main reason (as far as i can tell) is that you have to prove that you were not in Canada and that you were not benefiting from the govt when u were gone. I may not be 100% correct in all this but this is what i have been told. Hope this helps.

I already did, in my earlier post, which you still, apparently, haven't bothered to read. I clearly said that the exclusion "...pretty much wipes out any tax burden for the majority of us."

Furthermore, the specific reason I brought up the exclusion in the first place, was because our Canadian friends are concerned with the issue of double taxation. I was merely wondering if Canada might have something similar to this exclusion which America has. (This is also why I cited the observation that only Americans are taxed on world-wide income. My own inference had been that Canadians were not.) I have never contended that Americans working abroad as ESL teachers need to be worried about double taxation. This has all been for our Canadian friends.

Alright. All of this is getting way off topic, and becoming pretty pointless, to boot. Let's give it a rest there, Glenski.

Sounds like you have a real nice gig, there. The pay, the solid benefits, lots of paid holidays... OVERTIME!
I was kidding, of course, about dropping my plans for Japan to head your-a-way. Our main motivation is to live with the kids in Japan for another year, because they've lost a bit of their Japanese since we brought them to the States. Now that they're a little older (12, and not quite 10), I think a year in Japan will be good for them.
But, no doubt, your job and working conditions are superior to anything I, for one, will be getting, next year. I'll think of you each month, as I accept my earnings in the one hand, and part with every last yen of it with my other.
