All the info on Georgia seems to be out of date, does anyone have any recent experience they'd like to share? Of particular use, would be costs of living, rates of inflation, political stability, safety for expats, and general ideas on the people as a whole.
I rea;lise that's a pretty big list but but feel free to chip in with anything you think may be of interest.
Cheers.

Although the situation in Tbilisi is fairly calm at the moment,Ossetia is not far away and things are still very uncertain in the region.I would also add that many things in Tbilisi are surprisingly expensive compared to the average salary there, but then that can be said about many other places,Moscow being a very good example!

That's an interesting point that you've made about the relative cost of living when compared to a local salary. I wonder if anyone else can provide some information on the prices of goods and services?

I guess that political instability is a part of life for most Georgians as they have had a tumultuous time for the last generation. I've heard fairly positive things about the impact that can have on your life as a foreigner in Tbilisi though. It's all rumour and supposition though and there is no way of knowing for sure until you go, I suppose.

Thanks

Why waste yer time in the Trans- Caucasus when you can get killed so much more conveniently in Kabul?

What sort of lesson plan would you haver for teaching use of the past perfect under possible sniper fire or truck bombs?

Leaving aside the recent problems, my understanding is that Georgia is a beautiful country, with good food and wine. Also, it may well be one the oldest Christian countries in the world (for what that is worth), also the home country of one JV Stalin.

It was a fabulous place until the civil war in the early 90's and even in Soviet times the people there had a lot of freedom, compared to many others in the S.U, plus an abundance of all kinds of food and other consumer products which were in short supply elsewhere! But as many Georgians here in Cyprus tell me,their country has never been really stable since then and that is why so many of them have left because they simply have no confidence in its future, particularly after summer 2008!There are avid supporters of Saakashvili here and others who think he is crazy, but they all agree that their homeland is in a hell of a mess!
