Has anyone heard of this company based in Canada? They recruit for various teaching jobs in Japan and Korea? Any experience with them?

Yeah, they say they have short-term positions at universities in Japan...something I've rarely heard of anywhere. Anybody have any perspective on this company?

Their website has only been registered since September of 2007. Contact info for the domain is a Japanese name at an address in Vancouver.

Short-term positions at universities in Japan? Sounds very similar to Westgate. I wonder if they are an agent for Westgate?

That sounds believable.

I guess we're going to have to wait till somebody takes the bait, goes to work through them, googles them, winds up here and lets us know. :p

Here's what I know.

I sent a resume to NewPath a few days after I had begun the application process at Westgate. The guy at NewPath (Aoki-san) e-mailed me back a document called "Description of Working Conditions", asked me to look it over, and asked what were convenient times to call me. The working conditions were IDENTICAL to Westgate's description of its positions. Also, somewhere in the stuff on the NewPath website, it says that one of the requirements for the position is to complete "the employer's" online application. All of that indicates it's pretty definitely the same job.

I responded to Aoki, saying that I was already in the process of applying to Westgate, but I might still be interested in utilizing his services. I asked whether he had any personal contacts at Westgate or inside knowledge of their procedures that would enable him to give me some advice about the best references to use and the like. (The Westgate application process is 100% automated.) That was around Christmas; I still haven't heard back from him.

So it sounds like the NewPath job is the same as the Westgate job. I have a hard time seeing how someone functions as a "recruiter" for a job if all he does is point you toward the employer's website, though. Anyone who's searching the internet for short-term jobs in Japan is going to run across both Westgate and NewPath, so it would seem like most applicants who are aware of one would be aware of the other also.

Yeah, your conclusions seem reasonable, but how odd...

Maybe this is simply Westgate's "New Path (to) Recruitment"? An' got called out?
