Hi to all!

Can anyone explain about the HCT recruitment process, like do they ask which Emirate one would want to work for. Or it is just a case of take it or leave it?

Secondly, I never understood how the selection process goes. I have been short listed and now waiting if selected for the interview. If there are 16 colleges, how would they divide the applicants between interviewers in different colleges.

Thanks

Nordic

Unless things have changed now, once you have been short-listed for interview people from different colleges will look at your qualifications, experience, etc. If they are interested, they will ask for an interview with you. Interviews are always technically for the system rather than for a specific college but often the college that asks for the interview will be the one interested in taking you. They will usually ask if you are interested in any particular emirate but if they don't, you can always ask about it yourself.

Good luck.

Hi nordic.

They will ask you which colleges you would like to go to, but you have NO SAY in it.

so you could say dubai and end up in RAK or FUJ.

The only things that I have heard (purely rumor), is that if you want a smaller emirate you might have a better chance of getting what you want.

Other than that, it is up to the individual college to choose you.

As for the selection process... I have no idea, maybe they use a dart board Smile

They will conduct a video interview which is recorded. Usually there's a panel of 4 or 5 people from various colleges, including those who have expressed an interest in you. However, there may be others who are interested but unable to attend the interview for whatever reason. They will request the recording for review.

You have no say in which emirate or college you will be placed in. In fact, some people were told one emirate and then placed somewhere else about 2 weeks before arrival.

About the only thing you might be able to do to influence where you might be placed is if you have school age children - some emirates have VERY limited quality schools, especially once they get into their teens. But it's no guaranteee.

Thanks to everyone for the comments. They really were useful. Lets see how (if at all) the process will go and when I am once done with it, I can also comment on it.

I have no idea how tough the competition is but (based on a rumour) I heard that for example in AUS there were over 200 appliacant for a Business faculty position.

200 qualified, experienced applicants? I'd be very surprised if there were that many for a given teaching position at AUS, HCT, ZU or UAEU.

I'd say go for it, wordsmith - you have nothing to lose except time!

I was interviewed recently and it seems to me that the recruitment process is in full swing as things are moving fast.

As to the question of where one wants to go, I was asked "Are there any colleges where you would be unable to work?" In other words "Where don't you want to be placed?" I was pleasantly surprised. But as helenl points out, this may ultimately mean nothing. Confused

Could be, but in the past, it could've meant "sumptin".

Is there are way to = ahem = call the attention of the recruiters to your application? I've been languishing in the interview pool for a month and I see many posters here reporting interviews in the last couple of weeks. If its not to be, that's fine. Just don't want to lose an opportunity because I missed doing something simple.

OK... Noor dragged me over here... kicking and screaming... where I have to tell her that I have no answer for her question. Laughing Normally HCT is pretty fast to tell you if they are not interested. You could try an email to see if they respond...

Sorry... no magic formula to float your CV to the top of the pile...

Thanks, VS, but who would I email? I understand the recruiting process is centralized. There's a contact form on the the recruitment page. but that's to write to HR.

Err... isn't it HR that you applied to? They are in Central Services.

Only a couple of hours later and a phone call arrived from the UAE.

Thank you, VS. Wink
