| I would like to teach abroad during the summer months, but the wanted ads ask for a 6 month or longer commitment. Is it likely I will find paid work? I would like to work in Asia or Latin America (no where really humid). If it is unlikely, I would like to volunteer. Any suggestions? |

There are sometimes language camp jobs available, but they won't be advertised until closer to summer and sometimes require you to already be in-country.
BTW, Asia and Latin America in general are both really humid! |

Paid work? Yes, very doable. Work that will also pay your airfare, so that you don't go broke getting over there? Hmmmm... Less likely. I did a summer camp in China, and while I got a salary and paid housing, I lost money overall because the airfare wasn't included. I chose to do it just for the experience, though. Sort of a working holiday.

Speaking for Japan...
Forget short-term work. The vast majority of jobs require a 12-month commitment. You won't make up your losses in setup costs for 4-5 months.
Summer camps usually require people with visas already in hand. Check universities in your home country for those that don't.
Westgate Corporation is the only place that really gives full visa sponsorship for short-term work, but you have to be pretty qualified. |

I was in China for four weeks, and during that period, I did not have time to travel (working five days a week sort of makes it hard...) I just found the job online. Check this site or tefl.com.

Don't know anything about Asia, but it's not true that Latin America is generally humid. For example, in Mexico as you ascend the mountains from either coast, the weather becomes drier and more temperate. You find really humid weather only on the Pacific, Gulf and Caribbean coasts. |

| China is doable. For South america, try www.volunteersouthamerica.net or you could just work under the table for a bit. |

Hi Leslie_Teaches.
I agree with Nature Girl that China is doable.
I think your best bet will be to look up Summer Camp work as this is paid, allows you to travel and can be an extremely fulfilling experience.
It might be a little bit early now to begin arranging this but in Prague for example schools begin hiring for summer camp positions for July and August beginning early May.
