I'm thinking of dropping into the UAE on a research visit. I'm hoping to see classes in action at the university level. When does the term end? May? June? Any info will be most appreciated.

I can't speak for the others, but Emirates College for Advanced Education's term commences on February 8 and runs through June.

Love to have you visit!

bintizzy/sara - Thanks for the info. Cheers!

Nordic - I have used the websites but unfortunately when I contacted a department about a visit they said that the calendar was wrong and their classes finished at a different time. Hence the posting yesterday to this site.

Suggest you look for the 'end of teaching' date and then try to come at least 2 weeks before that, otherwise you will be tangled up in exam revision classes, or perhaps be sitting in on classes where the only students who are there are the ones who have been absent a lot - and who will be excluded from exams if they miss another minute.
And in my experience some teachers here cancel all classes in the last week before exams, for reasons which I have never quite understood.

That is because this is an odd year. Ramadhan moves through the calendar and right now, and for the next year or two, it is causing problems with the start of the academic year. Thus some places have made the decision to extend the end dates, but not changed the websites.

And yes, many teachers cancel classes the final week before exams for the simple reason that they might as well because most of the students don't bother to come. (except as mentioned by Iamherebecause) They are used to getting this time off from the schools to cram for the government exams which are totally memorization based. The fact that this isn't true in most of their university exams doesn't change the habit.

If I were you, I would visit in March or April. You can be sure to find classes in session and the weather hasn't become completely horrible yet. By May it will be 40+C every day with suffocating humidity.
