Just to let everyone know that along with the increase re Fiskal, the Government has also abolished the previous "Going home on an EPO is free", rule.

It now costs 2.5 million if you head home on an EPO without an NPWP number/card.

An unexpected surprise for some I'd expect - It was for me anyway. If you are heading home soon, I'd suggest you mention this to your employer. Wink

As I said previously, I have a feeling a lot of people are going to get ripped off by a lot of unscrupulous employers over the coming months.

Those signing up for a new job need to ensure that they will be registered for tax with a NPWP number. Ask. If the employer says no, walk away.

In the schools I have worked for previously, the final exit tax together with the EPO (Exit Permit Only)has always been paid for by the school (and always written into the contract!). You should always check with the school before signing the contract. The 'free' exit with EPO has only been available for the last 2 or 3 years. Before that the tax was RP1,000,000. This was added onto the final salary and bonuses, so that the teacher could pay it at the airport.

Only a week after the introduction of the new rules, my school issued to every foreign teacher an official card with their tax number, etc. No hassle! It's great working for an above-board organisation!!

I second that!

If any crooked employer comes up with some excuse such as 'foreigners can't get a tax number' it is utter hogwash and don't buy it. I discussed this with our admin who advised that so long as someone is legally employed it is actually very easy now to obtain a tax number for them. You get a plastic card with the NPWP number and your name on it. Show the card at the 'Bebas Fiskal' window at the port of exit.

If anyone has any problems with an employer... dish the dirt here.

After reading Malu's post I thought I'd go to the trouble of "Naming and Shaming".

A group that has already been mentioned on this site, and deservedly so is PT SUKSES BELAJAR NUSANTARA. A group that has a head honco that all cms have to report to

She goes by the name of Elisa Halim n she's answerable to all the decisions in the following schools that fall under her duristiction in her BULLSH.T position (What she actually does, nobody knows). Schools are as follows- EF Pesanggrahan, Pamulang and Batam.

A mate of mine requested an N.P.W.P number a while back and was told that it's the responsibility of the teacher to obtain their own..... Total B.S !

Keep clear of all EFs, in particular schools run by this JOKE of a group !!!

Likewise, Phis

I've never seen our school react so quickly to anything, ever.

The orange and yellow plastic NPWP "Direktorat Jenderal Pajak" card was given to relevant staff this week, complete with a website to contact for information:

http://www.pajak.go.id

Makes me think I should go and visit Singapore more often......

Not! (Thailand, anyone?)

Hi,

I just wanted to inform Drunken Master (see above) and other teachers that I left Indonesia - to be precise, Juanda airport in Surabaya - on an EPO today and didn't have to pay fiskal.

I suppose it is possible that the guy was not yet informed of a new rule or something, and EPO wasn't listed as one of the exemptions to paying fiskal - the airport had new banners explaining who did and didn't have to pay - but I didn't have to pay...

And as it's now Rp2.5 million, I'm quite happy about that.

I can only guess that YOLD was very lucky. If one were to look up old January news on the Jakarta Post website, they would see that 2.5 is now the apparent case on an EPO.

It's also mentioned on the Indo tax website- www.pajak.go.id or whatever it is.

I left via the Cikarang airport, Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta. Being that Indo is Indo, maybe things work differently in Surabaya - Either way mate, one has to be prepared...

hmmm, it still seems as clear as mud with the usual contradictory and unecessarily complicated rules.

and after 37 (38 with this one) it seems not many of us are any the wiser.

In Indonesia, whatever the nespapers say about introduction of new regulations that benefit or lighten the load on society, the bottom line is that it does often not work / apply in reality.

When it benefits the authorities you can bet your bottom dollar it is applied; often before the new regulation is legally ratified.

In respect to social justice and consistency, Indonesia is a great example of how 'NOT to run a country'.

I once said to an Indonesian guy (naively) that the best thing for Indonesia is for it to be recolonized and gradually given independence once a section of society has been sufficiently socially and academically educated to play a part in running the place.

Not only would it be hard to run - due to its diversity etc - .but you currently have some of the most arrogant, corrupt, selfish, uncaring, pretentious, and incapable knowitalls who mistakenly think they can.

While I am obviously biased, Indonesia is a waste !

Best

I was just reading http://www.pajak.go.id/dmdocuments/PAJAK%20REVISI%20akhir.pdf
and it shows that:

FISKAL FREE
2.a.3) Diplomats

2.a.4) Officials of international organizations

2.a.5) Indonesians who have become naturalized citizens of another country and don't stay in Indonesia for more than 183 days in 12 months

2.a.7.) Those who cross the border by land

NOT FREE
2.a.1-2) If you are an adult, no NPWP, and a foreign employer, it looks like you have to pay.

NPWP Card
2.b.2.) If you have the NPWP card, you AND YOUR FAMILY may exit the country together WITHOUT paying the FISKAL, providing that you give a copy of your NPWP, passport, and the SKSKP, which is a document that demonstrates that your family are fully dependent on you, or other similar documents that prove you are the provider and they are the dependents.

2.b.) You must have had the NPWP card for at least 3 days prior to departure.

SKBFLN Holders (Taxation-Free statement) - FISKAL FREE
2.c.1.) Foreign students with a recommendation from the high ranks of the educational ministry

2.c.2.) Scientific, cultural, and IT (cooperative with a local institute) researchers, and those on missions of religion and human rights (such as the Red Cross, I assume).

2.c.3.) Foreign workers in Batam, Bintan & Karimun, as long as their salaries have had the income tax removed.

2.c.4.) People who are seeking medical attention overseas, if they are being supported by an organization or private donor.

2.c.5.) Members of missions for art, culture, sports and religion who will represent Indonesia overseas.

2.c.6.) Students involved in a foreign exchange program.

I saw no mention of the EPO in this document. That doesn't seem positive.

The deadline for the NPWP is the end of this month, according to the above website.

I heard a news report recently that said that even PILOTS are being taxed. However, this document shows that they are FISKAL FREE if they have the proper documents: http://www.pajak.go.id/dmdocuments/Surat%20FLN%20Pelaut.pdf

Please remember, if your child was born of a foreign-Indonesian marriage after 2007, then your child is automatically an Indonesian.

BUT, if your child was born before that date, you must register it BEFORE the deadline so that your child may have dual citizenship. (I forgot the deadline.)

ALSO, if your child was born of a mix, but is illegitimate, it has NO STATUS in Indonesia whatsoever. Your child is a NON-ENTITY until s/he is properly registered.
