The books have also been misplaced here too! Class starts for me too tomorrow. I know the syllabus but it's crap and I know it doesn't work. I thinking of going with a little look at how to learn a language, it having just occured to me that this is never even touched upon at any stage of any uni course I teach. I can't face icebreakers. |

Since the university picks the books and sends out exams based on the books, they're sort of important. Particularly because the book is a tourism based book, I don't know exactly where it takes them during the course.
I have my own goals for the students in the course above and beyond the lessons specified by the book and I focused on those areas in my objectives. However, since I get these particular students for two hours a day five days a week, tomorrow will be based on expectations, course outline, introductions (horrid, I know), and... well, who knows what else, i'm still trying to come up with what we'll do.
I'll put it together. |

Mikey,
What publisher is it? Maybe you can find the syllabus for the book on the publisher's web site.
Good luck! |

UNIVA made me write two "Plan Dalton"s (is that a common Mexican expression?), which were day-by-day plans for the entire year. This was, of course, before I'd even met a single student and after admin told me they had no idea what the students' English level was. When I handed the plans in to them they told me they'd given me all the wrong books and I would need to re-do the plans. I smiled, said I'd be sure to hand them in by the end of the week, and never thought about them again. |

Especially ones that involve toilet paper! Do people actually do these activities in class? Here's a fantastic one if you're curious:
Quote: |
Toilet Paper Icebreaker
Level: Any Level
This activity is used as a "getting to know you", icebreaker on the first day of class.
Teacher takes the toilet paper roll and takes several squares of toilet paper, then hands the roll of toilet paper to a student. The teacher tells the student to take some, more than three.
After everybody in the class has some paper, we count the squares we have, then we have to tell that many things about ourselves, in English.
This activity works well with substitute teachers also.
The toilet paper is such an attention getter. |

yes i have my books now. i don't have the teacher's resource book which would be helpful, but things are moving smoothly thus far.
The book we're using is "English for International Tourism" from Longman press. |
