Thanks for the tip, JL. I have already put well over half my savings into NZ$, couldn't resist it at that rate, but I won't hold off too long with sending more home  Just about anything is better than the 90+ yen to the dollar we were on this time last year though. |

So you're getting roughly twice as many NZD for your yen now, compared with last year --WOW! "I have already put well over half my savings into NZ$, couldn't resist it at that rate."
That's smart. You've already locked in a lot of profit. We have a saying here in the U.S., "Bulls make money, bears make money, but pigs get slaughtered." Do you guys have that expression in NZ too? |

Yep, there are a lot of happy Kiwis in Japan these days 
I have been able to accelerate payments on the mortgage on the apartment I have in NZ, and even though my work (and therefore income) has been reduced with the economic downturn, the weak NZD/strong yen means that I am currently easily able to meet my financial commitments in NZ and then some.
The NZD won't go back to being worth 95 yen any time soon- experts say it was artificially inflated by the carry trade- but I'm really hoping for it to stay below 60 yen as it will make life much easier!
Haven't come across that expression before, who are the pigs?  |

Well congrats on the all the savings you've managed -and on the apartment you own, back home. I just hope there's some work left for me to do, when I get there in about two months... |

Continuing to enjoy seeing myself wronged as it dropped below 120 to the pound today. I sent last monday at 137. Would have made an extra hundred quid if I'd waited until Friday. How low can it possibly go?? |

My friends UK house was worth 100kGBP 12/18 months ago which was 25MILLION yen at the time.
His house is now worth 80kGBP which is now only 9.6million yen!!!!!!!!!
It is crazy times we live in. |

yes, I hear that house prices have really fallen in the UK (not just US)
as a Kiwi, I am expecting the NZ housing market to fall.
Ever since I came here about 10 years ago, NZ had a housing boom (as in house prices went sky high) and the J yen was low.
Suddenly its a different world |

| Its about damn time housing prices in the UK starting falling. They've been going crazy for years now, and one of the reasons I don't have any plans to go home is because I can't see any way of ever being able to buy a house the way things are right now. |
