I agree. It's not fair to your students to go into a classroom unqualified and unprepared (even though some schools will still hire you), and it's not fair to those of us who take this job seriously to just expect to get a job without investing some effort into learning how to do it. Makes the profession look bad!

Me too. But it's not the situation that comes up most in my neck of the woods- More often it's between a teacher with a real cert (including practice teaching) and one without, and the choice is fairly obvious.
