Hi all,

I am leaving for Spain in 3 weeks to pursue my 4 wk intensive Celta cert thru CLIC (International House in Seville). I am hoping to teach in Europe.

I am American, but I have an EU Passport.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with CLIC International House in Seville. How was the class? How was the aid with job placement? I am looking to get into a job rather quickly. The course ends March 13 and I'd like to be working in April/May. Is that a reasonable expectation? What should I expect? I would like to stay in Spain... Where (what cities) am I most likely to get a job in? What types of schools?

What has everyones experience been in getting a job after the completion of the course? How long did it take, etc?

I have enough funds to hold me over for a month or two while I look for work, but obviously I would like to get started with a job asap.

I have also been looking into getting a job during the traditional school year with MEC, The Cultural Embassadors Program (http://www.mepsyd.es/exterior/usa/en/programs/us_assistants/default.shtml). Anyone have an opinion on that?

Also, what have people done for housing while searching for a job? Or for an income during the interm? Once I have the job, where can I expect to live? Avg. compensations?

Thank you so much for all of your help. I am sorry for all the questions, but I need advice!

Look forward to hearing from you! Cool

I have answered your identical post on the 'General' forum. How many times did you post it? Shocked

Hi there, I can only tell you about my experience here in Alicante.

I did my TESOL at Woking College, Surrey, before we came over hoping to be able to teach at a Language School here in Alicante. To my disappointmet I found that Language Schools here pay really badly and very few of them give you a legal contract, meaning they pay you in black money so you are not entitle to social security etc.. plus no sick pay/holiday pay.. some of them even cancel your lesson without telling you etc.. so I opted for private teaching. For an hour's lesson I charge 15euros, can't really charge more than that, in fact, some will tell you 15euros is quite a lot, there are people who advertise for 12euros an hour...

I hear that there are more opportunities in Madrid, with proper Language Schools etc. If I were you I would not come to Alicante with the intention of teaching English as I did. I am not the only one who has fond this in this area.

Take care & godo luck,

I posted it a few times, so that I could get a wide array of responses.

I also am from the US but hold an EU Passport. I am going with a large chunk of change in my pocket so I am not too worried about making ends meet while still looking for work. But I would like something asap so that I can break even.

Thanks for the advice thus far!
