BTW, does anyone know which is officially correct: one space or two, after a period (full stop)? And according to whom? My students had a question about this. I was taught to leave two spaces, but some of them had been taught to leave one. It may be a question of the "rules" changing over time. |

I know the answer to this since I was a double major in English and business for my BA in Secondary ED. So, I was a certified typing teacher. Amazing what large chunks of one's education one never really uses, but at least I am a fast typist still.
The traditional rule has always been two spaces after a period/full-stop and colon - one space after all the other punctuation marks.
BUT... New Rules... the advent of computers where one has to actually think of each key stroke as taking up valuable memory means that the rule is changing and now one space after all punctuation marks seems to be becoming the standard. In fact, if you notice, on this board, even though I always put two spaces in the proper places (brain is programed), the board is programed to reduce it to one.
Personally I prefer the two spaces after the full stop because I think it assists reading - especially reading speed and comprehension.

So, I guess you're saying it is my age after all! I knew that was probably the case. Thanks for such a good explanation, VS. |

I think most people go through life trying to keep in touch with people and most people like networking as there are many terrible gigs in this game.
6 and 3 is the standard rotation in Libya. Veba did have a 28/14 and Khortag advertise a 28/28 on awful money.
Congrats on getting a 28/28 in Kazak, well done and good luck to you.
Marathon Oil do a 28/28 in Equatorial Guinea and recruiting is done by Wood Group and Fluor. I didn't get that one, (I interviewed when it was 6/4),, but am earning more anyhow.
I agree 6 and 3 is a week ,(if not 2), too long, but it's better than sitting it out for 11 months in the Magic Kingdom and other such places.
As I'm divorced and have to spend loads of time in another country where my son lives....the 2 weeks comes in handy in terms of cost damage limitation right now. |
