I had a quick look at various threads about the HCT salary and confused. I have a multiple choice question to ask you all experienced people out there.
What will be the possible HCT salary range for a fresh PhD graduate (maths) starting from this fall? Please select from the following.
(a) 13000-14000 AED
(b) 14000-15000 AED
(c) 15000-16000 AED
(d) 16000-17000 AED
(e) 17000-18000 AED
(f) none of the above |

What are your teaching qualifications? What experience do you have? HCT is not a university and the most effective maths teachers are trained high school maths teachers.
As far as I am aware, there is no scale that includes a PhD. Look on the website. If a faculty member gains a PhD whilst working at HCT the Director has the discretion to approve a salary increase. It's not guaranteed. |

I have only experience in the tertiary level; had been teaching applied maths- undergraduate level for the last 3.5 years. No school level teaching experience. As far as I know, they never specified PGCE anywhere in their advts. Keen to know how much do they initially offer for content teachers? |

Obviously, these folks are avoiding your question!
I am also curious to know....can HCT faculty with Phd (irrespective of specialty area), and with a view to the LR or LA classification expect to get with 15 years experienced and....yes... respectable publications get up to AED 25,000 starting salary?
Do experienced and well qualified HCT faculty not make more than AED 18,000? |

The PHD is irrelevant if you're teaching - you are placed on the teaching scale. Starting salary for content teachers - probably in the 14000 to 15000 range - I believe top of the scale is about 19000? (but I stand to be corrected) for faculty. Chairs/Deans/Supervisors make more - but not worth the headache IMHO.
EFL start lower on the scale usually, depending on qualifications/experience and what the EFL "market" is willing to accept as a group. Content teachers generally start higher because they're not willing (as a group) to work for less.
Fair, no - reality, yes. |

If you have a bachelor's degree 13600
Masters will get you about 15800
However it depends how much you cab negotiate in the beginning. My experience is that they are stingy when it comes to pay rise and work ethics you have to put up with is not worth it. cheers. |

It seems 15-16 K will be the most possible scale they offer for someone with masters degree. As many suggested here, I guess a PhD will not add much into salary though they are keen to have some PhD's on board. As far as I know, a PhD has nothing to do with foundation level teaching. It may help in the interview process. |

a PHd will add nothing to your $$$ salary unless your particular subject area is in "demand". Does HCT want PHds? Yes. Why? Accreditation. I believe only one program has a believable accreditation after nearly 20 years in operation? (I stand to be corrected on this point). T the C (VC at HCT) believes that PHds will valildate his own inadequacies and idiosyncracies - so far it hasn't panned out. |

spot on. VC is only interested in quoting the numbers in HCT annual conference and show to the other sheikhs, how good he is. Hence supervisors want you to pass everyone. |

With a PhD in Maths and publications why not apply for the Department of Maths at one of the universities - e.g. UAEU. You'd have a lower teaching load and be able to carry on researching and publishing. If you are more interested in teaching (e.g. on a foundation programme) than in research, then UGRU UAEU would I think pay better than HCT. Around AED 18.5K-20K. Don't know about other foundation programmes though |
