|
|
Hello all,
I made the leap last week and arrived in the PRC to start a one year contract but have yet to sign any papers making it official. I know from other post that stalling and changing conditions are not unheard of but I'm afraid if it becomes an issue I may have to forget about taking this job where i orignally intended.
I have a Z-visa and am willing to relocate althought I prefer to stick to the major coastal cities. If anyone knows of anything in Beijing in particular, where I am now, it might be a big help.
I'm actually hoping that my concerns resolve themself and I dont need to take steps to look elsewhere as I would actually be quite happy where I am if things go the way they were promised.
Maybe I'm just being a little paranoid but I'm a firm believer that it's essential not to put all one's eggs in one basket. |

It should be quite easy to find another job.
If you don't mind me asking, what exactly is the problem?
I know about stalling, my first job took five months before I got a Z visa and now at my second jobs it's been five months and counting . . .
Welcome to China ! |

If you're desperately looking for a job, PM me and I'll pass your details onto my school. 5000+ a month, near coast, 20 hours tops, blah blah
Enjoy

I don't understand your problem.
If you have a work visa, then you must have signed a contract. It's unusual for a consulate to issue a visa without you showing them an invitation letter.
And, if you got your work visa in the PRC, then you must have signed a contract and undergone a medical exam.
Anyway, you don't sound like someone that's going to last. Brace yourself for a whole year of adversity!
Besides: IT's not legal for you to change jobs at this stage, without getting a release letter from your current school, and a new work visa from your next employer! |

I was in-country almost 2 weeks before we had the 'official' contract signing. They made a ceremony out of it, big presentation in front of the whole school, speeches, flowers, etc. In the meantime, I didn't teach, was taken out to tourist places, and encouraged to rest and get settled. Prior to leaving the States, as Roger stated, I had a letter of invitation and a faxed contract in order to obtain the Z visa.
BTW - I never did sign a contract. Even though I am working equally as hard, for almost as much pay (BS vs. my husband's PsyD), my husband signed the contract for both of us. A bitter pill for this liberated lady to take, but one more experience to chalk up to being in China. |

I think that might be it. Stay cool. It sounds like you're on
track. Things just don't happen with super efficiency in China.
You are better off than most if you have a Z Visa. Something
must be going right.
It took me a few weeks to get an "official" contract signed as well,
even though I came over on a Z Visa (somehow). Don't ask me
how or why it happened that way. It just did. |

I forwarded a letter of invitation to the consulate in Oz - with no contract, no medical, and was given the Z visa, within one working week. I had half of the medical in Oz, but decided not to pay the costs of things my GP couldn't chalk up to Medicare. When I came here the local Dr. saw the medical results - but they didn't have my photo attached so called me in for the full medical, which the university paid for. The university has now sent my results, passport etc off for the 'Green book'.
I have not yet seen a contract, have been teaching for 3 weeks, was paid the first months wages the first week I was here. Other teachers tell me it takes about 6 months for the contract. Whilever they pay me, and I am legal, I'm not complaining!
Relax and go with the flow. |

I guess Im going to have to adjust my thinking a bit. |
